I don't know if this could provide an attack vector, but the Sony NBA game uses the Medius Game Communications Library as described in this link:-

I have extracted the main BOOT.BIN from my copy and this library and function names are all over it.
Oddly enough it also contains around 50k of the most obscense list of bad language I have ever seen. Guaranteed to offend everyone on the planet multiple times. Some of it is quite funny too. Not just individual words but entire phrases.

I don't think thats it, though its possible. 50k is a massive amount of bad language, and like I said some of them are more than one word and very odd.
For example:-
rug eater???
goat blower
f*sting videos

Hehe... not sure who tubby is but don't worry I do know 98% of the ones in the file.
My statement about them being odd is I can't imagine Sony expecting to type in a 2 or 3 word string that is then refused as obscene.
Maybe I should play the game online and find out. Purely in the cause of research of course. |

I dumped my UMD to a memory stick then open the BOOT.BIN in WinHex. You can also use STRINGS to output all the strings it contains.
