Hi,

First post and a serious question for a change - for me...

I am looking to attempt to 'port' an Atari 2600 emu as I think it would be a cool addition to the PSP emulator collection. I am fairly confident when 'hacking' about, have the PSPdevSDK (pS2dev) up and running and have compiled and altered the samples that came with it.

But, I am having trouble with the porting aspect. I am not quite sure whats the best plan of attack. The sources I have found for VCS & Stella seem very 'messy' with their code and have lots of SDL calls in them etc etc. Is it going to be better to get an older DOS emu's source to try and port, or is it just a case of trying to fathom out all the relative SDL's to PSP lib's ?

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Regards,

r3v3rb.

why not take an GP32 or GBA based emulator? You could use VCS32, sourcecode is available.

first of all, i want to encourage you in your 2600 emu port! I'm very
eager to see it.

2nd of all...the actual porting advice...here's an idea:
start with the Dreamcast port of Stella: http://svolli.de/software/dcstella/
it's a little more "down to earth" than the multi-platform stuff.

Hi,

I myself have been working on this, and have got Stella 1.4.2 running on PSP. I hope to post something shortly, just need to fix a sound issue (I think I need to convert the 8-bit audio buffer up to 16-bits, not sure yet).

r3v3rb: How far have you got with your port?

Thanks for the responses guys. The Atari 2600 emu is still being worked on, albeit at a slower pace due to real-life... As soon as things settle down I will probably take advantage of the help you guys are offering!

Issues left to fix:
- Sound output is incorrect
- ROM browser
- Proper PBP icon
- Crash issues on a few games

Cheers!
