Can someone suggest to me their favorite toolchain package? I notice that one package says it comes with all the good libraries. Do the others also come with them?
Also, I just bought a usb a to a printer cable on ebay. Does it need to be a specific kind for naplink? And which pc client software do I use for naplink?

naplink requires a usblink cable with a specific chip in it, called pl2301 or pl2302.
you will be better off with the ethernet adapter though.
As for toolchain, either build it yourself with the help of cygwin and ooPo's toolchain script, otherwise install one of the prebuilt packages. personally im not on windows so I dont keep track of wich bin package for windows is the better one.

jeez...I feel stupid now. Wish I hadn't been so hasty to get a link cable. Guess it'll go in with my collection of useless cables and connectors.
I wish I could go the ethernet route, but it'd cost a small fortune to get set up for it.

Ethernet costs about the same as a discounted game if I remember correct.
If you get it and dev with it, it will provide you many more hours of enjoyment, and a much better return for your time as well. |

I figure $40 for ps2 network adaptor, $15 - $20 for a pci ethernet card, $50 for a router, and $10 for a cable.
When I get some money saved up I may check into getting this setup, but for now I'm trying to find the cheapest solution possible. That $6 I just wasted on a usb cable set me back, believe it or not.....lol.

If you have to buy an ethernet card anyways then it sounds like you might as well just use a crossover -- which means you don't have to buy a hub. Just make sure to grab a crossover cable instead of a standard cable, otherwise it won't work! (Crossover cables should be same price, though I've seen a few places charge an extra buck for them) Thats another $20 off right there. So total price you are now figuring just short of $55.

Wowser, $55? I'd wrather fork over the $10000+ for a tool and deal with an NDA (non disclosure agreement) from Sony.
Just kidding, of course. PS2Link+ethernet has to be one of the better things I have done for my ps2...thanks ps2dev.org! |

| A crossover cable would work if the PS2 were the only thing to hook up. Getting a hub is nice because you may eventually get something else and wish to connect it as well. My hub has the PS2, an iMac, a laptop, and my main box connected to it. Hubs are just so darn handy! :) |

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm in the middle of job-hunting right now, but when I get some cashola, I'll try to get one of the ethernet setups.
