It seems Sony has taken the action on him. By the way, is there any mirror of Dark Alex's site, mainly for HEN SDK.

No one is really sure what happened. It could be that Sony threatened him - it could also be that he got a job programming where the boss told him he can't be doing projects of that nature on the side. We've seen a few people here at ps2dev who had to quit after getting a new job, so I feel that's probably more likely.

In any case, while we're all sad to see him go, it's not really a big deal. Even if there's never another custom firmware like D_A's OE firmware, it doesn't affect homebrew. What is out now is perfectly suitable for homebrew. It also plays most PSX games, the majority of PSP games, and has few restrictions on video anymore. If all you want is homebrew, you've been satisfied for quite some time. It's only going to be people wanting to play the very latest games who will be complaining.
