I want to get one of these memory cards online. As I have never physically seen one I wonder why some come with an adapter. Do you need an adapter to use it with the PSP or is the adapter needed for something else. I include a link to explain what I mean.

The word 'duo' refers to the size... it is approximately half the physical size of the normal memory sticks. The adaptor lets you use this duo-sized stick in devices that require full-size cards.

It isn't required for the PSP, but it is nice to have if you need to use a full-sized memorystick reader.

I use the SanDisk 5-in-1 memory card reader, and the Pro adapter to read my DUO card in it.

Speaking of which.. do you guys think it's worth the extra bucks to buy those new ULTRA cards with higher speed?
Like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7519738861
Does the PSP even use the higher speed available on those cards or is the extra speed only used during PC <> MS connection (in which case i couldn't care less)
Thanks for any info!
Later,

Alcahest

The PSP does not even apparently support the high speed mode of Pro versions so I woudn't think it would make any difference at all.

writing to a sandisk memory stick pro duo ultra II is ~1.5x faster then writing to a normal sandisk memory stick pro duo...
reading from a sandisk memory stick pro duo ultra II is as fast as reading from a normal sandisk memory stick pro duo...

(with the psp)

Last monday I bought a Sandisk 1G Memory Card for about US$150 in Taiwan (well the actual price of the dollar makes it more expensive)

You can see some pictures of this package:

One thing about PRO Duo vs. 'regular' Duo:

According to the manual, PRO means you can't run ATRAC3plus files off of it -MagicGate support or not-; I guess Sony confirms the real Pros dislike AT3 and only use mp3 (which will work).
