Hi all,

I would like to write my own piece of firwmare for the PSP, because I am sure that if the USB Part on the PSP firmware can be re write, the PSP should be able to drive some USb Devices

That why I would like to get all information about Usb Firwmare part.

2 years ago, I already wrote a USB driver for printer in my previous company, I also work a little bit on USB Firmware. Writing a new USB firwmare is a very good challenge for me.

Please help me finding informations about USB chip on PSP and information about USB Firmware.

Regards

Caviar

Well it is interesting that you ask. Looking at a dismantled PSP, I see that the USB lines lead straight to the main Sony processor. I do not see a separate chip that seems to be an apparent USB controller. Unfortunately, googling the part numbers on the unidentified chips only brings me to a dozen or so redundant pages that contain the same information found in this post. None of these posts identify which chip is the USB controller.

In another post, CyberBill simply states:
Quote:
The USB chip is -NOT- host capable. Definately not. Nope. Never.

However, he doesn't say what chip it is, or why he is so certain. Perhaps you could PM him to see if he will elaborate.

Later in that same thread, I list the chip numbers found inside the Sony Talkman USB microphone, which is the only PSP USB peripheral that I have been able to get my hands on so far. I theorize that the USB controller in that device is a chip that is labelled "A01023 534104 A01" (on three separate lines) since this is where the USB communication lines go. I haven't found any documentation on that part, and haven't even identified the manufacturer, not that it necessarily has anything to do with what chip is used inside the PSP.

Long story short, it appears to me that the USB controller is implemented on the main Sony ALLEGREX processor, either as an on-chip peripheral, or in software.

But please don't take my word for it. Just this morning, pyrosama posted some excellent high-resolution pictures of the PSP mainboard that you can examine for yourself. You may see something that I have not.

Best of luck with this project, and please keep us posted of your progress.
