i got sonic stage with my HiMD player. and i found that it works great for the 32 mb memory stick that comes with the psp. yet it doesnt work for a duo pro memory stick :( whyyyyy sonicstage lets you put music into 48, 64, 66 (ATRAC3), 105 (ATRAC3), 132 (ATRAC3), and 256 kbps. why wont it work for the duo pro?

I understand that it's the pro duos themselves that have a problem with atrac, not just from soundstage.. but I don't know why.. I'd just make mp3's from the atracs if i were you.

You can only use ATRAC3 in MagicGate Compatible cards.
Some MS compatible with MagicGate are:
- SONY
- SanDisk
- Lexar

But the Pro Duos are MagicGate compatible too - my 1Gb stick has the MagicGate logo on it - so that's not it.

Currently Memory Stick PRO Duo media cannot be used to record ATRAC3/ATRAC3plus music files. Music management software is being developed. However, Memory Stick PRO Duo media can be used to record and playback MP3 music files.

Well, yes, but does anyone know WHY that's the case?

mine is a SanDisk 256Mb.. The orange card..

but sonic says NO..

and even if you transfer the files to say your 32Mb card that came w/ it
then copy the folders to the 256(or whichever SonicStage dont like)

it still doesnt work..

From what I gather from sonic stage is that it says something about secure media and that the 256 card isnt.. (really this whole ATRAC thing pisses me off)

I bought a 256 card for music, so i wouldnt have to swap cards.. And the ATRAC format works great as far as space goes.. Oh well I guess..

There are two variants of magicgate: The one which works with atrac3 files and sonicstage, and the one implemented on the PRO duo cards.

The problem lies within SS. You could try the newest version (3.1). And if it doesn't work, send some feedback from the help menu.

My girlfriend has a Net minidisk player. It only reads encoded atrac-3 files.

we get around a number of stupid DRM issues by:

- installing sonicstage
- install realplayer
- realplayer will use sonicstage codecs for the atrac files and supports writing to the net md without the DRM.

I don't know
- if you can export atrac3 files directly from realplayer (we only use it to export directly to the MD player).
- if the outputted AT3 files would play on a pro duo card.

edit: rather humourous s/as/has in the first sentence :)
