Hi guys,

I wrote a media sync tool for PSP available at www.qrias.com.
I use it everyday and thought others may find it useful too (Yes, it's free).

It can sync iTunes songs (unprotected and protected ones, if you have FairKeys installed on your computer), jpegs, game saves, videos (like PSP Video 9). The original program does a lot more (see http://www.qrias.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=34 for a sample). But I disabled the other functionalities just to get the basic stuff working first.

It's the first public release. Other than myself no one has used it yet. But I have been using it for 2+ months (adding, removing stuff as I evolve it). Do gimme your feedback here or in the support forum. I'll get back to you as far as my time permits. Thanks.

Ok, a friend just wrote me to say that Hotpot runs fine on his machine. He sync'ed his iTunes library yesterday. Let me know if you need things changed, I'll consolidate the feedback and plan the next release in about a week's time.

Ok, question from another friend. Sorry for the lack of documentation.

You can/should click on the left icon to see all the customizable options. The wrench icon configures the quota and the desired quality of video, music and photos.

And besides batch mode syncing (Click on "Start Copy" or check the "Auto-copy" check box), you can also drag and drop multiple files and folders to your PSP by dragging them to the *left* icon.

Hotpot is smart enough to deduce which media files should go where and whether to apply conversion. Once you've dragged all the files you want into the left icon, click "Start Copy" to convert and transfer them to PSP.

One of the users asked me about the "Recipe" dialog and Fairkeys.exe. The explanation is as follow:

FairKeys.exe and DeDRM.exe are 2 programs that Hotpot needs to decode protected iTunes song. However there will be legal trouble if I integrate them into Hotpot. So you have to download them yourselves.
Hotpot uses "Recipe Files" to interface with programs such as Fairkeys, DeDRM, DVD Decrypter, ...

In this case, The iTunes .m4p Recipe Files tells Hotpot where to look for Fairkeys and DeDRM on the computer (i.e., after you have downloaded/installed them). When Hotpot needs to use them (e.g., when it copies a .m4p file), it will pop up a Recipe dialog box to ask for your help.

Note that the above procedure only applies to songs from iTunes Music Store. If you rip your songs from CDs, then Hotpot can convert them without using FairKeys and DeDRM.

To install these programs, click "Download" on the Recipe dialog. You'll be brought to their download site. Go ahead and download them to your computer. You may have to unzip them (if they are zipped up). You'll also need "ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll" in the same directory as FairKeys and DeDRM (Just google for it).

Once you're done installing all 3 programs (This should take like 1-3 minutes), go back to the Recipe dialog. click "Yes" on the Recipe dialog. You'll be prompted to browse the host computer to find "Fairkeys" and "DeDRM".

Hotpot will now remember the location of these programs and use them in the future. Sorry for the roundabout way. As I mentioned, keeping these programs out of Hotpot will allow me to distribute it without worrying about legal issues. Oh and yes, please don't pirate music. I wrote Hotpot so that I can enjoy the same songs (and playlists !) on my PSP.

Hi all,

I have released beta 3. Hotpot now supports:

+ Faster iTune song conversion due to a newly added cache. I will speed up the slow FairKeys authentication next (Trying to get the sync time for iTunes songs down to 10-15 seconds on the average).

+ Automatic alphanumeric sorting of picture files on PSP. No more out of order slide shows (Yay !)

+ Preparation for PSP v2.0 added (e.g., synchronize Internet Explorer and PSP browser favourites), but more work is needed here.

I didn't get to work on AVS Synth this release. Hope to implement it for the next one.

For the kind people who downlaoded Hotpot, I would like to mentioned that beta 4 is ready. And beta 5 is on track for next weekend 8^P

In beta 4, I have:

* Turned on AVISynth capability (so you can tweak the videos by writing high level scripts)

* Sped up conversion and iTunes authentication.

* Upgraded the rule engine (more on this in future releases). For now, Hotpot can also filter by ~ (negative conditions)... e.g., ~.avs in the "Filter" tab means don't copy .avs files.

* Some minor bug fixes.

Hotpot beta 5 is available. You can now:

* Take your IE favorites with you (on your PSP browser).

* Add your own common phrases to PSP 2.0's typing history from Windows (so you can thumb through them quickly on PSP's onscreen keyboard).

* I also added iTunes MP3 to AAC conversion upon requests from beta testers.
