hello all,
a few weeks ago i built a Ps2 from broken ones lying around the dorm. it works perfectly. now i am looking for a fun project involving my new ps2 to work on over the summer. any ideas? converting old memory cards to work with the new system, modifing controllers? something i can use i suppose. i can read schematics and i am pretty tech savey. i am open to any ideas. if any one knows a web site with a good project or interesting info please let me know. if i do complete a project this summer i will post instructions and photos on my webpage. How about creating the interface for a new light gun tech that could work on any type of TV (LCD/Plasma/projector, etc) ? I have developed one that works on PC - visit www.affineontech.com for demo videos - just need an emulator that would convert the output to the same timing signal such that it can be used for existing games.

Know of anyone else who might be interested ?

I know this can be done, because sony includes one with their ps2 linux kit.
If you can get a ps2 av pinout, and make it work with a vga connector to display hi-res ps2 graphics on a computer monitor, i will worship you.

keep in mind, im not talking about a vga box, this is a direct cable.
hint: a cat5 cable is perfect for this kind of job and its cheap, u just need connectors from radioshack.

I think i don't understand what you want. You mean hook a play station two up to a computer monitor? from what i understand, your average computer monitor is fed red, green and blue signals along with seperate horizontal and vertiacl sync signals. (http://www.bbdsoft.com/video.html)

I looked around on the internet and I got the strong impression that the rgb of the ps2 sends the sync signal with the green (thats pretty standard in the video world).

If the rgb comes out the ps2 that way (sony sells cables for this, their pretty cheap) then i'm pretty sure that the chip inside sends it out that way also. I haven't found a pinout of the internal hardware, but it would be very cost/space inefficent for the internal hardware to send out rgb + vert and horizontal sync signals to another chip which does the translating to sync on green.

you can get special sync on green monitors for use with a play station 2 (thats what the linux community does). or, maybe, just maybe, since there is a software setting to send rgb, s-video or whatever, maybe someone can write a driver to send out a vga signal.
