Has anyone been able to figure out a schematic for this port yet? Is it still RS232? And can the PSP support RGB scart (read somewhere that the japanese cable maybe could be altered to support RGB)?

I can answer that without having one, no and no.
It never was RS232 until an RS232 converter circuit is used,
and theres not enough pins for the known functions + RGB
unless the component pins are switched internaly, but I doubt it,
as I've never seen any other hardware use the same outputs for both standards.
It takes extra hardware to convert component to RGB.
There was a project in Silicon Chip electronics magazine to do it. |

I had a PS2 for a week before any chips or homebrew.
It had RGB plus composite, but no component video that I knew of.

Can the PS2 can switch to Y, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr on the same pins as RGB? |

| Yes, you can set the color output mode in the PS2 settings menu to either RGB or Component. The actual output pins are shared. |

So there is hope for RGB? :)
What about the TTL 2.5V, is it still there?
I have not found money to buy one yet therefor I just ask here, hope it's OK.

It must be unless the remote is completely redone.
If whatever DSP was doing the TV tuner/ TV out could do component,
I don't see why the option wouldn't be in 3.60 firmware,
but here's hoping we can use an old Amiga monitor. |

Okay, I used my VOM on my component cable and found this:

So I'd say the serial lines got moved, seeing as 3 is normally TxD, but is now VGnd. Not sure what the 42.5 kOhms to ground is. The component video lines are diode protected (open one way, ~600 kOhms the other).
The headphone plug is obviously the same as always - tip to left audio, first band to right audio, and second to audio ground. There doesn't seem to be an audio ground on the header. |

Here is the wire colors for the standard psp slim remote...
I still cant figure out the new serial port pins :-(
any ideas?

Hello.
Been looking at this subject for a few weeks desiding if I want a slim or not.
There are two other wires to add to the list... Both for S Video... A Y & C.
Starting to wonder if they went with a direct switch link or resistor ladder control when they dumped the iR link... See serial port would be use for both.
Have one but if no data in/out will just return the slim I just got and look for a phat...
If I can gather the time will try making an adapter and see if only buttons, resistor or what did they cook up... But 30 for the darn remote is a bit excessive even for Sony..
Tnks for those color codes and wires give me something to look at.. |

Well finally found a large Target store and a Circuit city that finally got in the 2000 version of the headphones...
YIPE 29.99 either place! Better be a microchip in there!
Oh well it covered under the R&D budget.. Unless the accountant looks close at it! O_O
ADDED: Frys has it for 25... |

From info in other forum here and the net will later pop in here.. Looks like this...
1 = gray.... PSP Serial Input
2 = yellow.. ~ +1.85V
3 = ---
4 = green.. ~1.85V
5 = ---
6 = ---
7 = brown ... Mike?
8 = orange.. PSP Serial Output.
9 = blue...... DATA GROUND?
10 = --
11 = --
12 = --

Data transmission I saw looks like from the link above but have not run a snoop on it yet. And strange. The color code matches...
May have the TX/RX backward... So take with a grain of salt for now...
ADDED: Ocured to me 1.85 voltage is basically 1 /2 of the 3.6 voltage of the battery... And the level need to power a Red LED. |
