most likely my thread title is misleading, but i was wondering if anyone can point me to a site to learn about how the system works?

For instance, determining what the certain pins, and other stuff does, if you know of any links, or a simulation program on wiring, please let me know even if not related to psp, i just do this stuff in my spare time

Under the psp section, you can find a number of useful stuff for programming in psp, especially the mighty "Yet Another PSP Doc". You don't wanna miss it.
