i have been doing some experiments with malloc's version 3 release of his mini mod for PMP mod.
Using the timeline display while the clip is playing shows that it cant keep up with the realtime time display in the top left hand corner.
The tracking timer actually counts in 100'ths of a second and I've noticed that the odd audio pop I hear at intervals is seems to be from the audio catching up with the video and re-syncing.
On some of the 1200kbs downloads I have tried the counter can count 1 secound in anything up to 1.7 secs on average.
I have tried an encode at 768/96kbs 1 pass - no audio 'pop' or any other issues with the player or the timer display.
768/96kbs 2 pass - 'pop' issue at intervals returns and counter can't keep realtime.
I assume my card is OK as it reads @ 1556 - so could it be the PSP CPU not handling the throughput of the data rate in a 2 pass encode????
Strangely a quality based encode (equaling roughly a 2 pass encode) doesn't give me this audio issue.
I have yet to try DIVX as an encoding option prefering XVID on open source ethics alone.
I have also been using belight for audio conversion direct from VOB to Mp3 - Has anyone had any issues with this method?????
Keep up the good work everyone
All the best

miemt11, still no auto aspect ratio calculator ? this is the only option that i dunno why you don't implement it in PMP simple. Too much ppl forget how many different video format there are (not a real 4/3 or a real 16/9). I think it's a real missing in your amazing software. look how baldmonkey did with PSPMPverter
C ya, hope to see that in next release.
Bye ! |

Really?
It could be because i didn't have the codecs..
Let me see..
Secondly,
on .05 i did not have this skipping frame display on the log screen..
but on .07 i keep getting
| Code: | 1 duplicate frame(s)!
Pos: 70.8s 1697f (62%) 98.62fps Trem: 0min 7mb A-V:0.000 [523:0] |
with almost every other frame..
although it still spits out a good output, i don't know why it keeps scrolling this..
Thank You!
--- I just tried again.
I get "pmp_lib_open: first frame is not a keyframe" error when I used the same VOB i used previously to encode Harry Potter using vDub into Divx.

OK. Try this
1: Ensure harddup is use
2: -ofps 25 (may need to change to 23 or 24 or remove the line to use the original fps) _________________ PMP Simple Converter 0.08 Package Lite edition

@hyedipin:
sometime mencoder seems to write a null first frame (a frame with a length of 0 bytes, not marked as keyframe)
i wasn't able to replicate this myself, seems related only to some mencoder versions (one user experienced this on a powerpc binary)
i'll handle this in the next version
probably today i'll release 1.01 (it will be a bugfix only release) |

|
|
Following are my steps to try to create H.264 codec PMP file, but failed.
1. Use "PMP.bat 1.mpg"
----PMP.bat-----------
@echo off
SET AVI=%1
SET AVITEMP=e:\1.avi
SET MP3TEMP=e:\1.mp3
SET PMP=e:\1.pmp
mencoder.exe %AVI% -vf harddup -ovc frameno -af resample=44100:0:2 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128 -of rawaudio -o "%MP3TEMP%"
mencoder.exe %AVI% -vf harddup,scale=480:272 -ovc x264 -nosound -o %AVITEMP%
pmp_muxer.exe %AVITEMP% %MP3TEMP% %PMP%
--------------------------
2. Use Jonny's "PMP Mod 1.0" to play the result 1.pmp, and following is error message:
------------
Error:
"pmp_decode_get: avcodec_decode_video failed"
Press X
------------
Any suggestions?
Thank you very much for your time! |

@wooolF
Thank you for your reply.
Following is Jonny's clarification in http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=4528&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30.
----------------------------
Posted: Wed Jan 04, 2006 1:04 am Post subject:
i've tested x264, but not deeply.
it can't be used in the current player build.
iirc Baseline Profile was going around 18fps, Main Profile/High Profile around 8fps
this is the speed with no optimizations.
maybe i could get full speed with Baseline Profile after optimizations, but it's too early to talk about this.
PS: infos about profiles can be found here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=96059
PPS: yes VirtualDubMod is probably more suited for the process (expecially audio demuxing)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualdubmod
----------------------------
I am looking forward to Jonny's next version which may be H.264 compatible. The key is H.264 MIPS assembler optimization?
PS. I modified Jonny's "PMP Mod 1.0" source code pmpmod\mod\pmp_decode.c Line 98 From "p->video_decoder = avcodec_find_decoder(CODEC_ID_MPEG);" to "p->video_decoder = avcodec_find_decoder(CODEC_ID_H264);" to *ONLY* support H.264 for following test:
(You can download the "PMP Mod 1.0 H.264.zip" from http://www.rapidupload.com/d.php?file=dl&filepath=3291).
1. Download "Matrix 3" trailer from http://dlc.pconline.com.cn/filedown.jsp?id=571&dltypeid=5.
2. Run following script:
-----------
@echo off
SET AVI=%1
SET AVITEMP=e:\1.avi
SET MP3TEMP=e:\1.mp3
SET PMP=e:\1.pmp
mencoder.exe %AVI% -vf harddup -ovc frameno -af resample=44100:0:2 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128 -of rawaudio -o "%MP3TEMP%"
mencoder.exe %AVI% -vf harddup,scale=480:272 -ffourcc h264 -ovc x264 -x264encopts nocabac:bitrate=400 -nosound -ofps 8 -o %AVITEMP%
pmp_muxer.exe %AVITEMP% %MP3TEMP% %PMP%
--------------
(You can download the result MatrixIII.pmp from http://www.rapidupload.com/d.php?file=dl&filepath=3319).
As a conclusion, the unoptimized H.264 can only be 8 fps as Jonny mentioned above. :-(

Scratch / first part of post - Malloc's M4 is out and fixed my problems
@BaLdMoNkEy
Thanks for PSPMVerter - Your Res calculator is great!
I've been playing with this over the weekend and find its ideal for all my old Divx rips.
Are you still actively working on this or is 0.9r1 final???
Keep up the good work codies!
All the best
J.

by the way, have you tested with my encodings? would be nice to hear some feedback on the stuttering problem =) |

Cheers wooolf........ I scratched the 1st part of the post....thanks for the heads up!
I'm downing all of your sharp encodes at the mo - will report in a few hours on M4 playback/issues
WOOHOO 1200kbs bliss!
Thanks again

OK miemt11, i am doing it right now. and will post the link for you to try and experiment on.

Hi jonny,
Thanks, I know, even from your first post I can tell this has been an issue. Can't we get some support from mencoder people, as to exactly what kind of VOB we need to feed it? Maybe I (we) am doing seomthing wrong while ripping the vob?
Or is there a way to force mencoder to apply something to the first frame? Other solution is to fix pmp muxer and pmp mod to ignore this, if possible at all. Thanks again. _________________ Jan 18th v.0.07 - PMP Simple Converter by miemt11 to use with PMP MOD Player on your PSP PACKAGED ready. http://rapidshare.de/files/11293003/PMP_Simple_Converter_0.07_ReadyPack.rar.html

PMP Mod v1.01 & PMP Muxer v1.01
- All the problems in the "Common problems" section are corrected
- Muxer: improved avi parser (more compatibility and support up to 4GB avis)
- Muxer: improved mp3 parser (more compatibility, wild search for mp3 frames)
- Muxer: a log file is written at the end (GUI programmers can use the last line of this log for error checking)
- Muxer: the tk version should run on linux with no modifications now (please someone should confirm this)
It's mainly a bugfix release.
Now, if no major issues will be found, i'll go on with wild optimizations of the player core.
malloc will keep his version in sync with my releases
(everything will probably converge to a single version in the future) |

Hi Woolf - Tried all your encodes on M4 - problem occurs with all files in the heavy matrix scene:(
Questions:
Did you encode using mencoder unsharpen or via vurtualdub(/mod) sharpen filter?????
Has any audio gain been implemented on the mp3 track and how was the mp3 track encoded????
How fast is the cpu on your PC???
All the best

Sweet ! :) Thanx Boys ! I will test that right now...
EDIT :
Ok bad news for me... like Malloc's versions and now this 1.01 version, I got more stutering on my low speed 2 GB SONY MS with them than the v1.00 version on a same video (768 kbps/128Kbps <- converted by 3 GP)
So I rollbacked... waiting for core optimization now ;)
