hi,

recently my ps2 mem card was displayed as damaged in the ps2 browser, all savegames were replaced by blue blocks entitled as damaged...

i tried to copy a savegame from another mem card to this one, but it failed, after that the blue blocks were gone and the browser said "no data", but in the upper left corner it is still indicated that there's only ~3000kB free space on this card :-S

is there any way to rescue the damaged savefiles???

I would say its toast. Best you can do is reformat it.

Without understanding the cause of the damage, it is hard to say, but I don't know of anyone who actively tries to recover data from memory cards.

If it is simple data corruption of the filesystem, not as a result of the physical nature of the flash memory itself, one could try to copy the files off to another operating system, probably a unix type, to manually inspect the files and decide how to repair them. This would require much knowledge of each savegame format and alot of guesswork. A more difficult case is if the directory structure is corrupted, and you have to resort to reconstructing the filesystem itself.

If you memcard corruption is as a result of a problem with the flash memory itself, especially if it was inserted/removed/powered-off when in the middle of a writing operation, the above may still apply, but you eventually would need to reformat it to make it truly usable again.

Recovering data from any media is always theoretically possible. There are companies that charge very high hourly fees to do this. Very few people do it as a hobby, its not very rewarding, and only would be done by the amateur if the motivation is high enough (something important may be lost) and the skill exists to do it yourself.

Sorry about your situation, but my recommendation is that you consider the data lost.

the MC wasn't removed during saving or something like this...

i used the max drive MC managment software, after i marked TWO (not all) save games an deleted them every savegame was gone...

when i checked this in the ps2 browser were these blue corrupt blocks shown entitled as damaged...

i tried to copy a savegame from another MC but the progress cut off after some time with an errormessage...

when i look in this max drive manament software two from the former savegames reappeared...

and in the ps2 browser the blue blocks are gone and theres only the message "no data"...

but in both, the ps2 browser and the max drive software, is still indicated that there is just ~3MB free space on the MC...

Again, I sympathize, but regardless of how it happened, what I originally said still holds: it is almost impossible to recover data unless you are yourself extremely skilled or very rich, and the data is important enough that you are willing to invest huge amounts of time and/or money.

Datel won't be helpful in this situation, because they won't want to spend the time or money either. Honestly, I think they would prefer to completely ignore this, because its an extremely difficult matter to deal with.

You really are better off to just reformat the card (or throw it away) and move on.

Not wanting to add fuel to the fire, but Datel's products are unlicensed, so they don't go through the same QA process that licensed games do. Anything goes because Datel can pretty much write their software how they want to, without any repricussions if something goes wrong.

One of the scariest things about Sony QA is the attention they pay to how games manage the memory card. It's this very reason (the possiblity of corrupting cards full of saves) that most of the Sony QA requirements are devoted to the memory card.

There is many ways..if you have a Network Adaptator on your Ps2 with ethernet cable relied to Pc

One easy,

Boot Ps2link v1.23
Launch XLink - Beta 1 or InLink 1.3.7
Load SIO2MAN.irx ; MCMAN.irx ; PS2FTPD.irx

And now you can access mc1 and 2 from internet explorer at ftp://192.168.0.10 (you must set this ip in the properties of the ethernet connection)
