So I've got my PS2 here, with the PL2301 cable and no demo disk from which to make an ISO.

I'd like to start getting into some PS2 development, but I can't progress any further until I get this step done and over with.

Any suggestions on where I can get a hold of said demo disk?

Its an NTSC PS2 BTW.

On a side note, anyone know how to tell the version of PS2 I have?

Never mind...I found out the version number. Its a V7.

Using a demo disk to boot your stuff is old... do a search on the forum for info on using the Independence Day exploit and ps2menu. This is the preferred way of running ps2link or naplink (I use it to do both).

If you have the proper USB cable, a PS2, a memory card and a PSX game then the exploit will work for you. The only trick is you have to get some files onto the memorycard. You may have to borrow a device that lets you load stuff on it from a pc, or use a swap trick to boot up long enough to copy the files over with nport. It may take some time but you shouldn't have to spend any more cash.

By the way, we can offer help here but we're not going to comfort you when you realize you've wasted money or did something wrong. Acting indignant is just going to get you ignored, or dismissed as not worth the time because we don't know you from any other fanboy who drops in because they think PS2 coding is cool this week. If you truly want to do this, try to be a little more personable... at least until you meet tubgirl.

I wasnt trying to sound indignant . My original question wasnt even addressed. And I'm not dropping ANYTHING into others laps. I was merely asking for help on finding a demo disk. The idea was to keep things as cheap as possible.

I do have a proper USB cable (PL2301 right?), a memory card, PS2, and a PSX game...somewhere. Now anwser me this, how does a swap trick work? Since I am trying to keep stuff cheap, I'd rather not buy another piece of hardware (the memory card device) to get this to work.

And I assume if I still need to buy the memory card device, the USB bridge cable is still needed to load stuff on to the PS2?

I didn't address the original question for a couple reasons: getting a demo disc like described in the old tutorials is next to impossible; using the demo disc is a big pain in the butt; it's not the way anyone does it anymore so getting help to do it that way is much harder.

Not singling anyone out, but new folks need to search the forum for info FIRST before bothering to ask ANY questions as all this has been asked and answered 23,952,781,277,433 times before.

Damn....I was really hoping to get the demo disk way working. Looks like I'll be getting a memory card editing tool soon.

If you are worried about cost, there are so many free ways to get Naplink onto your memory card. A simple google for ps2 memory exploit would have turned up some links.
